Each year Federal Distributors, and other
Anheuser-Busch distributors in Maine, work with local businesses
and organizations to bring alcohol awareness activities to communities
throughout the Pine Tree State. In 2002 alone, the Maine distributors
accomplished the following:
- Distributed 1,570 Family Talk About Drinking program
materials -- to help parents prevent underage drinking. 24,409 Family
Talk materials have been distributed since 1990.
- Provided 3,000 wristbands, 1,050 We ID Cards and 1,550
I.D. books (with color photographs of driver's licenses from all 50
states and Canada) to help servers and sellers of alcohol beverages
effectively identify those patrons of legal purchase age and stop sales
to minors. A total of 26,996 wristbands, 4,624 We ID Cards and 8,368
I.D. books have been distributed since 1990.
- Hosted 10 in-school presentations by speakers who educate
and motivate young people to make smart choices and respect themselves
and the law. 3,500 students attended these presentations in 2002. Wholesalers
have hosted 57 in-school presentations since 1998, and a total of 23,625
students attended these presentations.
- Placed 156 advertisements in local newspapers, in-stadium
signage, on billboards, Internet, radio and television, to help prevent
underage drinking.
- 3 Anheuser-Busch wholesalers conducted designated driver
programs in 2002.
- 2 wholesalers participated in the 2002 Budweiser Designated
Driver Holiday Sweepstakes to encourage the use of designated drivers
during the holidays.
- Placed 24 advertisements encouraging the use of designated
drivers.
- Instructed, through server training programs, 42 bartenders,
waiters, waitresses, convenience store clerks and home party hosts on
responsible-serving techniques to help them prevent alcohol abuse, drunk
driving and underage drinking. A total of 1,192 servers have been trained
by Anheuser-Busch wholesalers since 1989.
- Provided 26 free cab rides home from bars and restaurants.
A total of 252 rides have been provided since 1989.
- Placed 273 advertisements in local newspapers, in-stadium
signage, on billboards, Internet, and radio, reminding adult consumers
to drink responsibly. Wholesalers have run 4,351 responsibility ads
since 1989.
- Implemented 1 Good Sport program to promote positive
behavior among 30,000 attendees of sporting events, fairs and community
festivals.
- Participated in alcohol awareness and education programs
with 4 colleges and universities.
- Implemented the College Talk program on 4 campuses.
- Provided We ID materials to servers and sellers in 3
college and university markets, to help them effectively identify patrons
of the legal purchase age and stop sales to minors.
- Placed 29 alcohol awareness and education social norms
advertisements on college and university campuses.
